Body Positive 30 Day Challenge For the month of June, we've decided to focus on a 30 day challenge to improve mental well-being. Lead by the BBC Body Positive  Instagram, we're going to follow along the 30 day path and we'd love for you to join us!  First, follow @BBCBodyPositive on Instagram Second, follow us @SpinCityNewbury on Instagram  Third, commit to taking one small step everyday to better your mental wellness. Starting 1st June! Week 1 - Connect "This week, the focus of the challenges is "connect" - and by this we mean actual human interaction. Evidence shows that good relationships – with family, friends and our wider communities – are important for our mental wellbeing. Instructor Profile - Capper (Amy)

Image
©The Image Cella This weeks beautiful instructor profile is Capper! Something to brighten up your Wednesday for sure! Name: Capper (Amy) Age: 25 What do you teach? How to be awesome. [Also silks, hoop] How long have you been in your respective discipline(s) FOREVERRRRRR. I started Pole 10 years ago, Hoop 6 years ago and Silks 5. I accidentally did Trapeze this one time. I’ve been teaching Hoop since 2013 and Silks since 2014. I am qualified to also teach a few other disciplines. 😊 What inspired you to become an instructor? That’s not how that happened. Kate told me that I was an instructor. [Those were the days!] I keep this tradition alive by choosing my TA’s in a similar fashion. What’s the most important thing about instructing for you? The impact we can have on the wellbeing and physical/ emotional health of our students. It’s a big responsibility, and not one to be taken lightly. It scares me more than any other thing about instructing.

It's only a month to go until the big night and we are all getting excited! I thought I'd give you an update on what we are doing and more importantly, what we are doing it for. As often as we can we try to arrange some fundraising and over the last couple of years have run training sessions and jams to support our local homeless population as well as last months awesome scratch night which raised over £340 for Newbury Soup Kitchen/ HAVEN  (a donation which was doubled by donating via The Good Exchange, well done gang!)  This year we decided that instead of arranging our usual annual student showcase, we would go bigger, sparklier (who even thought that was possible?!) and much more ambitious - and would try and raise loads of money to support some important charities. The Charities... The first is Berkshire Women's Aid/Refuge . BWA provides a range of services to enable women in situations of domestic abuse to make choices about their future and to rebuild t
