Fewtrell – Aerial Catharine – Miss K
Age:
44
What
do you teach?
Hoop and sling
How
long have you been in your respective discipline(s)?
Since 2013? I
think…
Did you have any prior experience in dance or sport before you started?
Before aerials I did a bit of adult jazz dancing and flamenco. And before that Kung Fu and Kick Boxing. Before getting in the hoop I started pole with Mandy in Basingstoke and then discovered that hoop was easier, more pleasant, more sit-y down-y and you could keep your clothes on, so warmer too!
What inspired you to become an instructor?
Tom said we might have to move to Norway and I knew I couldn’t live without hoop so I wanted the qualifications to make it easier to continue.

What’s
the most important thing about instructing for you?
Seeing the joy hoop and sling bring to people – seeing someone manage a move they have been trying for ages – helping people to just LOVE aerial.

What’s
a favourite move of yours that might be seen as underrated to others?
Cobra
How
do you get out of a funk or get your mojo back?
Build combos – do them over and over, add in moves, take some out. Train with your friends so they can tell you how awesome you are J

What
are your best tips and tricks for putting together a routine?
Less is more! Leave space in between to breathe. Hold the moves and don’t rush to the next one (you think you are sat there for ages but when you are watching it goes in a flash and can look erratic). Play to your strengths – if you are not splitty then don’t add in a load of splitty moves that are going to make you feel rubbish – there is no sense in that!

What’s
your day job?

What
is something you’ve never tried but would like to?
I honestly can’t think of anything, over the years if I wanted to try something, I did it. I have lived 3 lifetimes in my 43 and a bit years and crammed a hellava lot in. If you have any ideas I am all ears J
